Best season: fall. Fall offers the clearest payoff at Smokemont: spectacular hardwood color displays, crisp daytime weather, and excellent trail conditions for group hikes and photography. Expect daytime highs roughly 50–65°F and nights dropping into the 30s–40s in peak October, ideal for campfires, fishing in cool streams, and wildlife viewing as animals prepare for winter. Weekends during peak color draw heavier crowds, so reserve the group site early and plan midweek visits for quieter conditions.
