Best season: fall. Fall offers the nicest riding and hiking conditions — crisp, stable weather (daytime highs typically in the mid-50s to mid-60s °F, nights in the 40s) with the forest turning warm hues of oak, hickory and pine contrast. Trails are less buggy and usually drier than spring, making long rides with horses more comfortable, while boating and fishing on Badin Lake remain pleasant on calm autumn days. Crowds are moderate (lower than peak summer lake traffic), but be aware of overlapping hunting seasons— Peak months: October, April, May, November
Fall is noted as the best season—crisp stable weather and attractive fall foliage for riding/hiking.
