The grassy understory means your neighbors are always visible, and there are no showers or flush toilets. If that combination bothers you, the 22-site layout offers nowhere to hide from either problem.

<p>Big Creek Campground feature a hosted, 22-site campground with picnic tables, vault toilets, fire grates, and potable water. There is a boat ramp for river launching. The campground is 20 miles north of Columbia Falls on the North Fork Road. This is bear-country; proper food storage is required. This campground has a 14-day stay limit. The elevation is 3,300 ft. The campground is located along the North Fork of the Flathead River, a designated wild and scenic river. The understory is grassy providing minimum privacy between sites with many sites overlooking the river. The North Fork of the Flathead River is an excellent family float river. There is a free map, Open Road Map, available from the Hungry Horse Ranger District Office that, among other things, depicts "put-ins" and "put-outs" on the North Fork of the Flathead River. Big Creek empties into the North Fork of the Flathead River at the campground. The campground is 2.5 miles from the Camas Creek entrance to the Glacier National Park. The Big Creek Outdoor Education Center of The Glacier Institute is across the road from the campground. It provides "opportunities for children and adults to learn about the diverse natural and cultural resources of Glacier National Park and the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem." The Institute offers field seminars including guided hikes in the Glacier National Park. Although not all the seminars and hikes originate from the Big Creek Outdoor Education Center, some do. The North Fork of the Flathead is primarily a float river. Good for canoeing and family rafting.
The parking aprons are dirt. There is an RV waste station, with potable water, available for a fee at the Exxon gas station located 3.9 miles west of Hungry Horse, MT on US Rt. 2.
In Columbia Falls, MT, take State Rt. 486 north 20.5 miles to campground entrance on right. NOTE: State Rt. 486 turns into dirt at 12.6 miles.

Summer brings the most reliable conditions, with daytime highs in the mid-60s to mid-80s°F and nights in the 40s to 50s. The campground operates mid-May through September. River fishing and boating hit their stride once spring runoff drops, typically by early to mid-summer. July and August see moderate crowds at this 22-site campground. It's livelier than shoulder season but far less packed than nearby Glacier National Park trailheads.
