Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable access and the fullest range of activities—expect long daylight, wildflowers, and warm daytime temperatures (typically 60–80°F, with nights cooling to the mid-30s–50s). Trails into the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness are snow-free and fishing on Racetrack Creek and nearby streams is at its peak after snowmelt; wildlife viewing and biking are also excellent. Crowd levels remain low to moderate thanks to the small 13-site, first-come/first-served campground, but be bear Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: December, January, February, March

Racetrack Campground has 13 campsites set along Racetrack Creek with picnic tables, fire rings, a water pump, and two vault restrooms. The site includes a day-use picnic area with parking and is generally accessible late May through mid-November depending on weather. Camping is first-come, first-served and the fee is $15 per night.
