Carrying all your drinking water for a 9-mile trip is a real commitment, and summer mosquitoes are thick enough that multiple reviewers hiked in face nets. Kayakers can't access this site at all.

Best season: fall. Fall offers the clearest combination of mild weather, dramatic color, and solitude — daytime highs typically range from the mid-40s to low-60s°F with crisp nights often dipping near freezing. Foliage peaks from mid-September into October, making hiking, photography, and wildlife viewing (deer, migrating birds, raptors) especially rewarding, while black flies and mosquitoes are gone. Trails and the shoreline are quieter than summer weekends, so you’ll usually have the island’s headlands and Gull Peak months: September, October, August, July Avoid: December, January, February, March

The nearest potable water is approximately 6 miles south of this campsite at Juniper Flats Group Campsite. Plan ahead, and bring drinking water when staying at this site. Water can be filtered from Lake Superior which is accessed at North Beach, approximately 1.2 mile east of this campsite. A primitive latrine, food storage pole, fire ring, and benches are provided in/near the campsite. This site can accommodate up to 6 people in two tents.
