Natural Features and ScenerySandstone cliffs tower along the island's eastern shore, their rust, cream, and gold layers carved by ancient seas and Superior's waves. The western beaches spread white sand and smooth pebbles mixed with sea glass, lapped by calmer water in protected coves. Inland, the trail network winds through hardwood forests of maple, birch, and hemlock. Reviewers consistently mention the spectacular scenery from both land and water. Towering cliffs, serene beaches, and sweeping lake views from overlooks scattered across the island.
