Spring Lake State Forest Campground

Tent campers and small-trailer owners who want a lake paddle or a crack at North Country Trail hiking will find fall the obvious window: cooler temps, thinning crowds, and hardwood color from the hilltop sites make it the clearest value here.
No electric or water hookups and tight, uneven terrain rule out larger RVs. First-come-first-served with no reservations is a real gamble on fall weekends when color peaks, and T-Mobile users will be completely offline.

Fall delivers the clearest benefits: cool, crisp weather and hardwood color with daytime highs typically in the mid-40s to mid-60s and chilly nights in the 30s and 40s. Leaves peak from late September into mid-October, making the North Country Trail and hilltop campsites especially scenic. Fishing and paddling remain pleasant on calm, cooler days. Crowds thin after Labor Day, so sites are easier to snag on a first-come basis.
