Go if

Fall campers, hikers, and anglers do well here. Trails run about 10 to 15 miles through woods, prairie, and lakeshore, Johnson Lake has bass and bluegill fishing, and cabin or electric sites are easy to use when booked early.

Skip if

Winter campers or anyone who needs full hookups year-round should pass. Water and showers shut down roughly Nov. 1 to May 1, cell service is spotty, and the park can close for controlled hunts or special events.
