Sites run small and can feel tight on weekends; if a seasonal ladybug swarm rolls through, it's not theoretical, one camper bailed early after hundreds got inside their rig.

Spring offers the most comfortable weather and the best wildlife viewing. Daytime highs run 65–80°F, with cool mornings that make camping and biking pleasant. Birding peaks as migrants arrive and resident species are active. Wildflowers and fresh green understory add color to bluff views over the lake. Most positive trip reports come from fall, winter, and early spring, when temperatures are cooler and bugs are manageable. Summer is hot and humid with more insects, and shade is less reliable after tree loss. Seasonal ladybug infestations can be heavy; one camper left early after hundreds entered their rig. Weekdays are generally quiet, while weekends can be moderately busy.
Peak season with warm days. Most facilities open. Reserve ahead.
