No potable water is a hard fact, not a minor inconvenience. Anglers hoping for streamside fishing will also be disappointed since the creek here isn't fishable and the Blue River requires a separate drive.

Fall brings the best conditions. Daytime highs range from the mid-40s to mid-70s°F depending on how late in the season you visit, with nights dropping into the mid-20s to 40s°F. The oaks and sycamores turn color, wildlife viewing peaks, and the creek still holds water. The high elevation keeps the campground cooler year-round than lower desert areas. Big-game hunting seasons run in fall, so expect some activity in the forest.
Notes state fall brings best conditions with comfortable days and cool nights.
