Millwood is located in the southwest corner of Arkansas on the Little River, 16 miles upstream from its confluence with the Red River. Nine recreation areas offer modern camping facilities. Millwood Lake provides some of the best fishing in the country, while the surrounding land is prime habitat for nature enthusiasts of all types. Birders from across the nation come to Millwood to get a glimpse of the over 309 bird species making appearances throughout the year.

Fall offers the best combination of comfortable weather (daytime highs typically in the mid-50s to low-70s°F, cooler nights in the 40s–50s°F), excellent fishing as bass and crappie remain active ahead of winter, and peak waterfowl migration for superb wildlife viewing. The lower humidity and fewer insects make shoreline birdwatching and evening campfires far more enjoyable, while crowds remain modest compared with summer holiday weekends. Paraloma Park, located in the tranquil northern section of Millwood Lake, is a secluded campground known for its peaceful atmosphere. Visitors have access to a diverse range of amenities, including 30 paved sites equipped with water and electricity. Restroom facilities feature flush toilets and showers, and the campground also offers a trailer dump station. Additional amenities include a boat ramp, a playground, and a fishing pier. The campground is situated directly on Millwood Lake, providing scenic lake views from most sites.
