There are 13 Corps of Engineers day use parks and 4 campgrounds on Walter F. George Lake, a great place to camp, fish, boat and picnic. Enjoy the natural beauty of the lake and the Chattahoochee River, as well as the gracious antebellum mansions located in nearby historic towns, such as Eufaula, Alabama and Cuthbert, Georgia. The lake, sometimes referred to as Lake Eufaula, extends 85 miles along the Chattahoochee River and borders the States of Alabama and Georgia. With 640 miles of shoreline, Walter F. George Lake offers plenty of room for all of your favorite camping, outdoor, and water-related activities.
In Dothan take 431 north to Abbeville (27 miles). In Abbeville take Hwy. 10 East to Ft. Gaines, GA. In Ft. Gaines take Hwy 39 north, go 2 miles. ACF/Walter F. George Resource Site building is on the left.

Best season: spring. Spring offers the best balance of comfortable weather and peak outdoor activity — expect daytime highs in the mid-60s to low-80s°F and cool nights in the mid-40s to mid-50s°F. Warmer water and active fish make April–May prime for bass and crappie fishing while migratory birds, wildflowers and mild hiking conditions make shoreline walks and wildlife viewing especially rewarding. Crowds are moderate (higher on holiday weekends) and the campground’s hookups and facilities are fully available after Peak months: May, April, June, March Avoid: October, November, December, January

Bluff Creek Campground offers comprehensive amenities catering to a variety of camping preferences. The campground features 77 sites equipped with both water and electric hookups, flush toilets, showers, potable water, laundry facilities, a dump station, and a fish cleaning station. A group picnic shelter is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Some amenities were highly praised for cleanliness and upkeep, including the shower facilities and restrooms. However, issues were raised about noise and odor from a nearby paper mill that operates 24/7, which detracted from the experience for some visitors.
