Dinosaurs once roamed here. Their fantastic remains are still visibly embedded in the rocks. Today, the mountains, desert, and untamed rivers flowing in deep canyons support an array of life. Petroglyphs hint at earlier cultures. Later, homesteaders and outlaws found refuge here. Whether your passion is science, adventure, history or scenery, Dinosaur offers much to explore.
Dinosaur National Monument is located on the Colorado and Utah border with a parts of the monument in both states. Dinosaur fossils are not visible in the Colorado portion of the monument - only on the Utah side. The Quarry Visitor Center and Exhibit Hall (where you see the dinosaur fossils) are located approximately 7 miles north of Jensen, Utah.

Best season: fall. Fall offers the best mix of comfortable weather, dramatic desert light, and cottonwood color along the Green River—days are typically in the 60s–80s°F with cool nights in the 30s–50s°F. This is prime time for hiking Split Mountain, scenic drives, fishing and non-motorized boating on calmer water, and photography when the canyon colors pop but crowds have thinned after Labor Day. Campground reservations end Oct 1 but first-come sites remain into mid-October, making early October especially scenic Peak months: September, October, June, May Avoid: November, December, January, February
Fall described as best: mild days, colorful cottonwoods, thinner crowds; reserve early for fall.

The Green River Campground offers a mix of useful amenities for campers. It includes 80 campsites with picnic tables and fire pits at each site, providing a functional setup for both tent and RV campers. There are flush toilets and drinking water available throughout the campground, although RVs cannot fill potable water tanks here. Notably, the site lacks electrical hookups, showers, dump stations, or water hookups for RVs. Firewood is available for purchase via a self-serve station near the entrance kiosk, priced at $7 per bundle. User reviews frequently mention the cleanliness of bathrooms, although some note that they are older and could use updates. Clean bathrooms and running water are appreciated features, though water pressure is often described as low. Several reviews highlight the lack of shade as a significant drawback for some sites, particularly during hot summer months.
