About Cascade Campground
Tucked into a forested canyon where the Clark Fork River carves through ancient rock, Cascade Campground offers an intimate riverside escape for those who don't mind claiming their spot on a first-come basis. This small, rustic retreat puts you within walking distance of thundering Cascade Falls and the trailhead to historic Iron Mountain, making it a perfect basecamp for adventurers seeking both water and wilderness.
The campground provides 11 individual sites plus one group site; sites are back-in only and can accommodate RVs up to 27'–35' depending on site. Camping and a group site are explicitly available.
Historical SignificanceYour campsite sits near the gateway to Iron Mountain Trail #242, which follows the route of an old wagon road that once carried pioneers and prospectors through these rugged mountains. Today's hikers trace the same switchbacks that creaking wagons navigated generations ago, connecting you to the determined travelers who first opened this wild country.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground nestles in the cool shadows of towering Douglas-fir, ponderosa pine, and western larch, their branches filtering the canyon light into dancing patterns across your campsite. Though the highway hums nearby, the Clark Fork River flows just across the road, offering excellent fishing opportunities and the soothing soundtrack of moving water. From your forested haven, short walks lead to the misty spray of Cascade Falls and the historic Iron Mountain Trail, where the canyon walls rise dramatically on either side, revealing millions of years of geological history in their layered faces.
Geological RegionCanyon bottom along the Clark Fork River, where millennia of flowing water has carved deep channels through ancient bedrock, creating the dramatic corridor that shelters this campground.
