Historical sites include the Stage Coach Inn in nearby Salado. Stillhouse Hollow Lake is located near the Fort Hood Army Base, which has several points of interest for the military buff. Tour Chalk Ride Falls Environmental Learning Center located below Stillhouse Hollow Dam. The Center includes a hiking trail along the Lampasas River, a spring-fed creek with a waterfall, and several wildlife viewing points.
From Belton, 5 miles southwest on US 190, 4 miles left on FM 1670.

Best season: spring. Spring offers the best balance of mild weather and active lake life — daytime highs are commonly in the mid-60s to low-80s°F (mid-March through May), with cool, pleasant nights. Wildflowers and budding trees brighten the shoreline, bass and sunfish are in prime spawning condition for excellent fishing, and migratory songbirds return, making birding and wildlife viewing especially rewarding. Crowds are moderate (weekends fill up at the marina and swim beach), and boating, swimming, hiking, andPic Peak months: April, March, May, October
