No boat, no trip. You must arrive by water, register by 9 p.m. on arrival night or lose your site and fees, and there are no hookups, no pets, and no flexibility on any of those points.

Summer is the prime season, with daytime highs between 70–85°F and nighttime lows in the mid-50s to mid-60s. Lake surface temperatures reach the mid-60s to mid-70s by July and August, warm enough for swimming. Weekends in July and August see heavy boat traffic on the lake. Weekdays are quieter. Late summer brings occasional rain showers.

Long Island (Lake George Islands) offers a unique camping experience where all campsites are accessible by boat only. The campsites are well-forested and private, providing a dock for at least one boat, a fireplace, a picnic table, and a toilet facility. Additional picnic areas include charcoal grills, fireplaces, and tables, and picnic shelters that can accommodate up to 15 people. Within the campground, amenities include boating, fishing, hiking, picnicking, and access to a recycling station. There are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups, and pets are prohibited on the islands.
