Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable access and the warmest weather (daytime highs typically 60–75°F, nights 30–45°F) so trails, the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, and creek fishing are all fully usable. Wildflowers and active alpine streams peak in early summer, and long daylight plus excellent stargazing make evenings memorable. Expect moderate crowds on holiday weekends and summer weekends—book early if you want a site on peak dates. Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: October, November, December, January
Peak season; excellent hiking, wildflowers, stargazing, though yellow jackets and no potable water noted.
