Best season: fall. Fall offers the clearest combination of scenery, solitude, and excellent fishing — cottonwoods and high-elevation shrubs turn gold in September and early October while bugs fade and crowds thin. Expect daytime highs roughly in the 45–65°F range with crisp nights often dropping into the 20s–30s°F, ideal for day hikes into the nearby Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness and prime trout activity on Rock Creek. Be aware that Montana big-game hunting runs through parts of fall, so wear blaze orange and check季 Peak months: September, October, August, July Avoid: December, January, February, March
Called the best season: golden cottonwoods, excellent fishing and strong solitude in Sept–Oct.
Stony Creek Campground has 10 first-come, first-served campsites. Sites include picnic tables and fire rings; one water pump and two single vault restrooms are on site. The campground is typically accessible late May through mid-November depending on weather. Payment is made on-site and a Recreation.gov QR Scan-and-Pay option may be available but could require downloading the app prior to arrival.
