Driving directionsFrom Bozeman, MT: Drive west towards Four Corners, then south towards Big Sky/West Yellowstone on US Highway 191 for about 40 miles to the Big Sky turnoff. From here, access routes depend on the season: 1. June 16 - December 1: Drive south on US Hwy 191 for 3.75 miles. Turn right onto Buck Creek Ridge Road FS 2599 and drive 7.7 miles to the trailhead. Travel 9.5 miles on Buck Creek Ridge Trail 10 and then take Trail 467 for 0.3 miles to the cabin. 2. Winter route (December 2 to June 16): Park across from Buck Creek Ridge Road entrance on US Hwy 191. The cabin is approximately 17.5 miles via snowmobile. 3. Non-motorized access: Follow FS Trail 162 from the Ousel Falls Trailhead for 8.3 miles to FS Trail 10. Continue for 1.5 miles, then take Trail 467 for 0.3 miles to the cabin.
Yellow Mule Cabin is not directly accessible by car. Summer access requires an 8-mile hike, off-road vehicle, or motorcycle. Winter access requires a 14-mile snowmobile journey. Buck Creek Ridge Road FS 2599 and Buck Creek Ridge Trail 10 are closed to all wheeled motorized vehicles from December 1 to June 16.
