Best season: spring. Spring offers the best balance of comfortable weather, wildflower displays, and active wildlife viewing — expect daytime highs roughly 45–65°F and nighttime lows near freezing to the low 30s. Trails are green and meadows bloom beneath the old-growth ponderosa, making hiking and birdwatching especially rewarding while crowds remain light to moderate. Spring access is generally reliable on Highway 26, though early-season storms can leave slick spur roads, so check current road and trail conditions Peak months: May, June, April, September Avoid: December, January
