Best season: fall. Fall offers the clearest skies, the most stable weather, and the best wildlife activity — ideal for rim-side viewing of Hells Canyon and the Seven Devils Mountains. Expect crisp daytime highs roughly 45–65°F and chilly nights dipping into the 20s–30s°F; alpenglow and long, clear vistas are common in September and October. Crowds thin after summer, giving you solitude at the seven walk-in sites, though be aware of overlapping big-game hunting seasons and wear blaze orange if hiking in the area. Peak months: September, October, June, May Avoid: December, January, February

Saddle Creek Campground is a small, remote site located on the rim of Hells Canyon along Hat Point Road. The campground features 7 walk-in tent-only sites. Due to heavy wildfire activity in the past, mature trees and shade are scarce. Amenities include fire rings, picnic tables, and a Forest Service pit toilet. However, potable water is not available, so visitors must bring their own. Firewood was reportedly available during one visit due to cut-down trees, but this is not a guaranteed feature.
