Tight site spacing and a single shared dumpster bother you. Reviews flag outdated bathrooms, and declining recent sentiment suggests the facilities aren't keeping pace. RVers needing a dump station will have to go elsewhere.

Wapsipinicon State Park sits on the edge of the town of Anamosa and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Many of the park’s structures, including the stone arch bridge, lodge, and shelters, were handcrafted by prisoners from the nearby Anamosa State Penitentiary. The park features more than three miles of multi-use trails winding through wooded areas and open grass prairies, which are also open to cross country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. Amenities include electric campsites, full hook-up campsites, non-electric campsites, walk-to campsites, modern restrooms, showers, playground, boat launch ramp, boat dock, day-use lodge that is ADA accessible, and shelters. The Playground Shelter is ADA accessible, and the Rotary Lodge is available year-round for large events and can be reserved up to 12 months in advance through the online reservation system.

Fall brings daytime highs in the 50s-70s°F and nights in the 30s-40s°F. The rock formations stand out against autumn foliage, and visitor numbers drop from summer levels. Summer offers long days for cave exploration but can be sweltering outside the shaded rock chambers. Winter turns the bluffs icy and temperatures drop sharply. Spring and fall deliver the most comfortable camping conditions with clear skies and moderate temperatures.
Autumn foliage highlights rock formations and visitor numbers drop, improving experience.
