About Group Camp 1

Nestled along the peaceful banks of the St. Marys River, Group Camp 1 offers an unforgettable escape for gatherings of up to 25 people amid pristine Florida wilderness. Step directly from your campsite to the river's edge for fishing, paddling, and wildlife watching, all surrounded by ancient cypress stands and serene oxbow lakes. Advance coordination with the Florida Forest Service ensures your group has exclusive access to this forested retreat.

Designated group campground that accommodates two groups of about 25 people. Primitive camping is available; the presence of electric/water/sewer and 30/50 amp hookups is also listed.

Historical Significance

Renamed in 1996 as a memorial to Ralph E. Simmons; property was purchased with Preservation 2000 and Save Our Rivers funds and has been managed under agreement by the Florida Forest Service since the early 1990s.
