RVers with big rigs who can't grab a pull-through will fight sloped parking all weekend. Also: Highway 46 runs through the park and CDOT is paving it August through October, so expect construction delays on the access corridor this season.

Summer brings daytime highs around 60–75°F with nights dropping into the 30s–40s, making it the most reliable season for camping at this elevation. July and August offer fully operational facilities, accessible trails, and peak wildflower displays, though expect moderate weekend crowds. Winter dumps heavy snow and sends temperatures well below freezing. The park stays open year-round, but conditions get genuinely brutal. Spring and fall are transitional, with unpredictable weather shifts common at 9,500 feet. Pack layers regardless of season. Note that shower water temperatures can be inconsistent, adding a touch of authentic mountain unpredictability.
Aspen groves and mountain views make fall colors a strong draw.
