No potable water at any time of year means hauling everything in yourself. After October 23, trash service disappears too. Car campers expecting even basic amenities, or anyone unprepared for full pack-it-in conditions, will have a rough time.

Summer is the most practical season, with daytime temperatures typically between 70 and 85°F and nighttime lows dropping into the 40s. Trails are clear of snow, making multi-day trips straightforward. Expect moderate weekend crowds at the eight sites, though the walk-in access and wilderness setting keep the place quieter than drive-up campgrounds. Winter brings heavy snow and the loss of water services, creating legitimate backcountry challenges. The high elevation means cold nights even in summer, so bring warm layers.
Summer is most practical: 70–85°F days, trails clear of snow for multi-day trips.
