Best season: fall. Fall is prime for catching the western larches turning brilliant gold against the cinnamon trunks of mature Ponderosa pines, making October and late September ideal for photography and quiet hikes. Expect crisp daytime highs in the mid-40s to low-60s F and chilly nights that often dip into the 20s–30s F, so bring warm layers and a four-season sleeping bag for comfort.
