About Slyder Farmhouse

Step into history at the Slyder Farmhouse, a beautifully restored year-round retreat nestled within Gettysburg National Military Park, just moments from legendary landmarks like Little Round Top and Devil's Den. This 2024-updated historic property seamlessly blends Civil War-era character with modern comforts—think fully equipped kitchen, climate control, and keyless entry—while placing you at the doorstep of battlefield trails, the park visitor center, and Eisenhower's former home.
This listing is a historic farmhouse lodging rental within Gettysburg National Military Park (a house available for overnight stays), not a traditional camping area.
Historical SignificanceThe walls of the Slyder Farmhouse hold stories from one of America's most pivotal moments—the Battle of Gettysburg unfolded across these very fields in July 1863. As you settle into this witness to history, you're not just visiting a battlefield; you're staying within it, surrounded by the same rolling terrain that shaped the course of the Civil War. The National Park Service provides detailed historical documentation of the farmhouse's role during those fateful three days, connecting you directly to the past.

Each season offers its own unique window into the park's natural beauty, making any time the right time to visit.
Natural Features and SceneryThe farmhouse sits within 6,000 acres of protected landscape where history and nature intertwine in perfect harmony. Beyond your doorstep, pastoral meadows give way to forested knolls dotted with mature oak and hickory stands, while hidden wetlands and meandering streams create quiet sanctuaries throughout the park. The changing seasons bring waves of color—spring bluebells and violets, summer's black-eyed susans, and autumn's golden asters—while deer, foxes, songbirds, and countless other creatures go about their lives among the monuments and memories. It's a living landscape where every trail and treeline tells two stories: one of nature's resilience, another of a nation's struggle.
