Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of color, comfortable weather, and top-tier trout fishing — daytime highs are typically in the mid-50s to upper-60s°F with crisp 40s–50s°F mornings in October. Hardwood ridges and river valleys light up with late-October foliage, trails are pleasant for hikes, and dam-released cold tailwater fishing is at its peak. Insect pressure drops and crowds thin compared with summer, though leaf-peeper weekends can be busier; plan for weekday stays if you want solitude. Peak months: October, September, May, April Avoid: November, December, January, February
Fall offers best foliage color, comfortable temps and peak trout fishing per site notes.
