Shade-seekers will struggle in midsummer. Most sites have young trees that offer little cover, and the open valley gets genuinely hot on summer afternoons. Also, cell service is essentially gone at the sites, so anything requiring a signal needs the lodge Wi-Fi.

Summer is prime for creek swimming, boating on nearby Current River stretches, and long days of wading Sinking Creek. Expect daytime highs around 80–95°F and warm evenings in the 60s. Water-based activities peak during this season, and the sandy gravel bars and swim spots are most inviting, though weekends and holiday periods draw the biggest crowds so reserve early. Bring insect repellent for mosquitoes and plan for quick afternoon storms that can raise creek levels. The open, mostly treeless campground can be quite hot and sunny at sites during midsummer. Fall transforms the surrounding hills into Ozark color and offers more comfortable temperatures for hiking and floating. Full services typically run April 1st through October 31st.
Peak season with warm weather, perfect for water activities. Book early.
