Summer offers the campground's brief, prime window: long, warm days (typically 65–80°F) and cool nights (mid 30s–low 50s°F) that make the meadow and high country fully accessible. Wildflowers, calm Johnson Creek flows, and stable high-country weather put hiking, fishing, biking and wildlife viewing at their peak, and the Frank Church Wilderness trails are open for day trips and backpacking. Yellow Pine Campground has 14 sites in a remote mountain meadow near Johnson Creek and the South Fork Salmon River. Peak season is typically early June through late September; the campground is accessible by most vehicles but the access road is narrow and may be rough in spots. The nearby community of Yellow Pine (just north of the campground) offers limited services. Charges are non-refundable.
