Spring birders and trout fishers get the most out of this place. White-faced ibis, osprey, and cinnamon teal work the shallows in April and May, daytime temps sit in the 50s and 60s, and the lake stays calmer than holiday weekends bring.

Best season: spring. Spring offers the best balance of mild weather and wildlife activity — expect daytime highs roughly 50–65°F and cooler nights often 25–40°F at this high‑country lake. The lake is busiest with migrating waterfowl and stocked trout activity, making it prime time for birdwatching and fishing; wildflowers and greening juniper/pinyon slopes add scenic value. Crowds are moderate (strongly higher on holiday weekends) but far lower than lower‑elevation Arizona recreation areas, so you get good access to Peak months: May, June, April, September Avoid: December, January, February
