Best Time to Camp at Overflow Campground

Lake Havasu welcomes campers year-round, but timing is everything in the desert. Fall through early spring delivers that perfect desert camping sweet spot—warm days, cool nights, and endless sunshine for water activities. Summer is a different story entirely: expect scorching temperatures that make shade and air conditioning essential rather than optional. Most campers flock here between October and April when the weather cooperates beautifully with outdoor adventures.

About Overflow Campground

When the main campground fills up, Overflow Campground at Lake Havasu State Park offers a convenient backup option that keeps you close to all the lakeside action. These open, no-frills sites provide a practical base camp for water enthusiasts who want quick access to the beaches and day-use areas without the landscaping of the main campground.
The overflow area is a dry (primitive-style) overflow camping loop used when primary sites are full. Sites are generally open gravel/dirt pads with limited shade and fewer built site features than the main campground.
