Best Time to Camp at Main Campground

Summer belongs to the water—jet skis zip across the river, kids splash in the shallows, and the heat drives everyone to the cool relief of the Colorado. Come winter, though, and the scene shifts entirely: the crowds thin out, temperatures settle into that perfect range for hiking and fishing, and you might have whole stretches of beach to yourself. River Island welcomes campers year-round, so whether you're chasing summer's high-energy water sports or winter's quieter pleasures, the river's always ready.

Spring (Mar-May)

Wildflowers bloom, mild temperatures, fewer crowds. Great for hiking and photography.

Best
Summer (Jun-Aug)

Peak season with warm weather, perfect for water activities. Book early.

Fall (Sep-Nov)

Beautiful fall colors, cooler temps, quieter campgrounds. Ideal for peaceful trips.

Winter (Dec-Feb)

Off-season, limited services. Check for closures before visiting.

Planning Tips
  • Operating Season: Park open 24 hours a day, year-round
