Historical Significance
The area is named for early settler Richard Withrow and serves as a historic put-in point for War Eagle Creek.
Weather and SeasonsPlan your visit for spring or fall to catch War Eagle Creek at its best—floating season typically runs from March through mid-June, though rainfall always has the final say. Spring brings wildflowers and rushing water, while fall trades the green canopy for blazing color and crisp mornings perfect for coffee by the campfire. The park's seasonal pool opens on weekends and runs through Labor Day, offering a family-friendly swim spot when the creek runs low.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground sits cradled in classic Ozark beauty—hardwood forests spilling down rolling ridges, deep hollows echoing with birdsong, and dramatic limestone bluffs rising above the clear waters of War Eagle Creek. In spring, keep your eyes on the forest floor for delicate Ozark trillium and other native wildflowers pushing through the leaf litter. The creek itself is the star here: calm pools perfect for a fishing line or inner tube, rock shelves ideal for a picnic lunch, and that particular kind of Ozark stillness that feels like a secret you're lucky enough to share.
