Summer offers the best combination of mild weather, long daylight, and open campground facilities — expect daytime highs typically in the 50s–70s°F (10–21°C) with cool nights around 30–45°F (0–7°C). This is peak time for fishing, paddling on Paxson Lake and the Gulkana headwaters, hiking in the boreal forest, and reliable wildlife viewing in near-shore and riverside habitats. Paxson Lake Campground provides a variety of amenities suitable for many campers. These include a large boat launch accommodating 70 vehicles, toilet facilities, boater registration stands, and information panels. There is a $10 fee for RV dump station use by non-campers. The campground hosts 50 campsites, including 20 in the first loop with universally accessible toilets and hand pump wells, and 20 in the second loop, which includes 10 walk-in sites. Fire rings, picnic tables, potable water, universally accessible trails, and bear-proof trash receptacles are provided. The site also features six double vaulted toilets, three of which are universally accessible.
