This guide covers setting up both the single burner and double burner Crossover fireboxes side by side. If you only have one, skip the steps for the other.
Orientation
Clear the pad, lay out your parts, and spot the color coding so setup flows smoothly.
Set up on level ground near your campsite. The tripod stands need a flat, stable surface. Keep the propane tank accessible between the two grills with enough hose length to reach both.
Lay everything out before you start so nothing is missing mid-setup.
One tank powers both grills
A propane Y-splitter lets you run both grills off a single 20 lb tank. The single burner needs an adapter hose since it is designed for 1 lb disposable cylinders. The double burner connects directly to the splitter with a standard bulk tank fitting.
Marine-grade stainless steel
Both fireboxes are built from 304 mirror-polished marine-grade stainless steel. They are designed for boats and RVs, so they handle outdoor conditions and salt air without rusting.
tripod assembly
Each grill sits on its own aluminum tripod stand with a center tube.
Pull each of the three legs outward from the center hub until they lock into position. The legs should be evenly spaced and the tripod should sit flat on the ground without wobbling. Repeat for the second tripod if using both grills.
Pull the center tube upward out of the tripod hub. Line up the small hole on the tube with the threaded locking pin on the hub. Screw the pin in clockwise until it is snug against the tube. This holds the tube at the correct height for the grill to mount.
Finger tight is enough
You do not need tools for the locking pin. Screw it in by hand until it feels firm. The weight of the grill keeps everything stable.
mount grills
Slide each firebox onto its tripod and clamp it in place.
Underneath the single burner firebox there is a mounting clamp. Line up the clamp opening with the top of the center tube on the tripod. Slide the firebox down onto the tube and close the clamp lever to lock it in place. The grill should sit level and not wobble.
Repeat the same process for the double burner firebox on the second tripod. The mounting clamp works the same way. The double burner is wider but the center tube mount is identical.
propane connection
Hook up both grills to a single propane tank using a Y-splitter.
The single burner firebox is designed for 1 lb disposable propane cylinders. To connect it to a 20 lb bulk tank, use an adapter hose that converts the small threaded fitting to a standard regulator connection. Attach the adapter to the gas inlet on the back of the grill, then connect the other end to one output of the Y-splitter on your propane tank.
The double burner firebox has a standard bulk tank gas fitting. Connect the hose from the second output of the Y-splitter directly to the gas inlet on the back of the double burner. No adapter is needed. Make sure the propane tank valve is still closed at this point.
Keep the tank valve closed
Do not open the propane tank valve until both grills are fully assembled with grease traps in place and you are ready to cook.
grease traps
Install the disposable foil liners so grease drips are captured and cleanup is easy.
On the back of each firebox there is a small metal latch that holds the grease tray in place. Press the latch downward to the bottom of its track. This unlocks the grease tray so you can slide it out.
Slide the disposable Magma foil liner into the grease tray. The liner catches grease and drippings during cooking. When you are done, just pull the liner out and toss it. The double burner has two grease trays, one behind each burner.
Slide the grease tray with the foil liner back into the firebox. Push the latch upward to the top of its track to lock the tray in position. It should not slide out when the latch is up. Repeat for all grease trays on both grills.
lids and handles
The grill lids flip open to become cutting boards, supported by fold-out side handles.
There is a small metal clip on the front of each firebox that holds the lid closed during transport. Flip the clip upward to release the lid. On the single burner, there is one clip. The double burner may have two.
On each side of the firebox there is a folding handle held in place by a pull pin. Pull the pin out, then lift the handle upward until it locks in the vertical position. These handles support the lid when it is open and also serve as side handles for moving the grill. The underside of the lid has a food-safe cutting board surface.
Lift each lid section upward and back until it rests on the deployed handles. The lid halves flip open to become two cutting board surfaces on either side of the grill. Each shelf has a 25-pound weight rating. Your grills are now fully open and ready for a cooking surface attachment.
cooking surfaces
The Crossover system has four interchangeable cooking surface options. Pick the one that matches what you are cooking.
Each cooking surface drops directly onto the burner opening in the firebox. No tools needed. You have four options depending on what you are cooking.
Season the griddle before first use
Coat the griddle surface with a thin layer of high-smoke-point oil (avocado or canola). Heat it on high until the oil smokes and turns dark. Repeat 2-3 times to build a non-stick patina. A well-seasoned griddle is dark brown or black and naturally non-stick.
ignition
Open the propane, set the altitude, and fire up the grills.
Turn the propane tank valve counterclockwise to open the gas supply. On each firebox, locate the small altitude adjustment lever next to the control knob. Push the lever all the way down to its lowest position. This sets the air-fuel mixture for your elevation. At higher altitudes, you may need to adjust this upward for a cleaner burn.
Push the control knob in and turn it counterclockwise to the HIGH-IGN position. You should hear gas flowing. Continue turning slightly past HIGH-IGN and you will hear a loud click from the built-in piezo igniter. If the burner lights, you will see a blue flame through the burner opening. Adjust the knob between HIGH and LOW to set your cooking temperature.
Multiple clicks may be needed
The piezo igniter does not always light on the first click. Try clicking 3-4 times. If it still does not light, use the backup lighter method in the next step.
If the piezo igniter does not light the burner, grab a long-neck lighter. There are two small holes on the side of each firebox specifically designed for inserting a lighter. Push the lighter tip into the hole, flick it on, then turn the control knob to HIGH-IGN to release gas. The flame from the lighter will ignite the burner.
Do not let gas build up
If you have been trying to ignite for more than 10 seconds without success, turn the knob to OFF and wait 30 seconds for any accumulated gas to dissipate before trying again.
Walk the perimeter once and confirm these items before moving in.
Your Magma Crossover grilling station is ready to cook. With 45,000 BTU across both fireboxes and four cooking surface options, you can grill burgers on one side and cook pancakes on the other. Time to fire it up.
Swap between a covered grill, flat griddle, sear grate, or direct burner in seconds. No tools needed. Each surface drops right into the firebox opening, so you can change your cooking style mid-meal.
Both fireboxes are built from 304 mirror-polished marine-grade stainless steel. Originally designed for boats, these grills handle rain, wind, and salt air without corroding. The cooking grates are also stainless steel.
The grill lids flip open and lock into position on the side handles, becoming FDA-approved cutting board surfaces. Each shelf holds up to 25 pounds, giving you prep space right next to the cooking surface.
The altitude lever on each firebox adjusts the air-fuel mixture for your elevation. Whether you are cooking at sea level or a mountain campsite at 8,000 feet, you can tune the burner for a clean, efficient flame.
Each 15,000 BTU burner has a built-in wind deflector that shields the flame from gusts. The enclosed firebox design keeps heat focused on the cooking surface instead of blowing away.

The piezo igniter clicks but the burner does not light
This is common, especially in cold or windy conditions. Try clicking 5-6 times rapidly. If it still will not light, use a long-neck lighter through the side access holes. Make sure gas is flowing by listening for the hiss when the knob is at HIGH-IGN.
I smell gas but the burner will not ignite
Turn the knob to OFF immediately and wait 60 seconds for gas to clear. Check that all propane connections are tight with no leaks. Apply soapy water to the fittings. Bubbles indicate a leak. Retighten the connection and try again.
The flame is yellow or orange instead of blue
Adjust the altitude lever. A yellow flame means the air-fuel mixture is too rich. Push the altitude lever slightly higher to let in more air. At higher elevations, the lever needs to be higher to compensate for thinner air.
The grill wobbles on the tripod
Check that all three tripod legs are fully extended and locked. Make sure the locking pin on the center tube is screwed in tightly. If the ground is uneven, reposition the tripod so all three feet are on solid ground.
The grease tray will not slide out
Make sure the latch is pushed all the way down to the bottom of its track. The latch must be fully disengaged before the tray will slide. Do not force it.
The lid will not stay open in cutting board position
The side handles must be fully deployed first. Pull the handle pins out and lift each handle until it locks vertically. The lid rests on these handles. If the handles are not locked, the lid will fall back down.
Can I use the single burner with a 1 lb disposable cylinder?
Yes. The single burner comes with a molded platform that holds a 1 lb cylinder at a 35-degree angle. This is convenient for car camping when you do not want to bring a full 20 lb tank. The double burner only works with a 20 lb tank or RV gas line.
How do I clean the griddle after cooking?
While the griddle is still warm, pour a small amount of water on it and scrape with a flat metal spatula. The steam loosens stuck food. Wipe with a paper towel and apply a thin coat of oil before storing. Do not use soap on a seasoned griddle.
