Helinox Chair One

In about 2 minutes you can assemble a full-size camping chair that weighs just 2 lbs and packs down to the size of a Nalgene bottle.

Setup Time

1-2 minutes

Weight

2 lbs 2 oz

Capacity

320 lbs

Seat Height

13.8 inches

Four shock-corded pole sections snap into a hub. Stretch the seat fabric over the frame. Done.

Orientation

Before you begin

Clear the pad, lay out your parts, and spot the color coding so setup flows smoothly.

Choose your spot

The Chair One can be assembled anywhere. It works best on flat, firm ground. On soft sand or mud, the narrow feet can sink. No tools or extra space needed.

Unpack and verify parts

Lay everything out before you start so nothing is missing mid-setup.

  • Chair frame (4 shock-corded pole sections that connect via a central hub)
  • Chair seat fabric (with pole pockets at each corner)
  • Stuff sack / carry bag

Shock-corded frame

The entire frame is connected by internal shock cord, so the poles self-align. Just unfold and let the sections snap together into the central hub.

chair assembly

Part 1: Assembly

Unfold the frame, lock the hub, and stretch the seat fabric into place.

1

Unfold and assemble the frame

Remove the frame from the carry bag. Unfold the shock-corded pole sections and let them snap together. The four legs connect into a central hub that locks the frame into a rigid structure.

2

Lock the central hub

Push each pole section firmly into the central hub until all four legs click into place. The frame should feel rigid with no play in the joints.

3

Stretch the seat fabric over the frame

Take the seat fabric and slide each corner pocket over the corresponding pole tip. Start with one corner, then work your way around. The last corner requires a firm stretch to get the pocket over the pole tip.

The last corner is the hardest

The seat fabric is intentionally tight to create a taut, supportive seat. For the last corner, pull the fabric firmly and slide it over the pole tip. It gets easier after the first few uses as the fabric breaks in.

4

Test the chair

Place the assembled chair on flat ground and sit down to confirm all four corners are secure. The chair should feel taut and supportive with no loose fabric.

Part 2: Pack-Up

Pop off the seat, fold the frame, and stuff it back in the bag.

5

Remove the seat fabric

Pop each corner pocket off the pole tips. Start with any corner and work around. The fabric slides off easily.

6

Fold the frame

Disconnect the pole sections from the central hub and fold the frame back into its compact bundle. The shock cord holds everything together.

7

Pack into carry bag

Place the folded frame and seat fabric into the carry bag. The whole thing packs to 14" x 4.5" x 4.5".

Final checks

Walk the perimeter once and confirm these items before moving in.

  • All four corner pockets are securely over the pole tips
  • Frame hub connections are fully clicked in
  • Chair is on flat, firm ground (won't sink into soft sand)
  • Seat fabric feels taut with no sagging

Congratulations!

Troubleshooting

The last seat corner won't stretch over the pole tip

This is normal, especially with a new chair. Plant the chair on the ground, put one foot on the base of the leg for leverage, and pull the fabric firmly down and over the pole tip. It gets easier after a few uses as the fabric breaks in.

The chair sinks into soft ground

The Chair One has narrow feet designed for firm ground. On sand or soft dirt, place flat rocks, a frisbee, or the Helinox Ground Sheet accessory under the feet to distribute weight.

A pole section won't snap into the hub

Make sure the pole is fully unfolded with the shock cord pulling sections together. Push the pole end firmly and directly into the hub socket. If sand or dirt is blocking the connection, clean both the pole tip and hub socket.

The chair feels wobbly

Check that all four hub connections are fully engaged. Each pole should click into the central hub with no play. Also ensure all four seat corners are properly seated on the pole tips.

Can I leave the seat fabric attached when packing?

No, the seat fabric must be removed to fold the frame. It takes just a few seconds to pop the corners off and back on.

What's the difference between Chair One and Chair One (re)?

The Chair One (re) is a 2025 redesign using 100% recycled polyester fabric. Same frame, same capacity, slightly heavier (2 lbs 7.5 oz). Both assemble the same way.

This guide is written for Outdoorithm Collective families using the Helinox Chair One. Assembly is identical for the Chair One (re) redesigned version.
