Driving directionsEight miles south of the confluence of the East Fork of the South Fork of the Salmon River on the South Fork of the Salmon River Road. From McCall, go 30 miles northeast on Forest Road 48, then 7.5 miles south on FR 674; or access via Warm Lake Road just north of Cascade and then down the South Fork of the Salmon River road.
The campground can be accessed via Forest Road 48 and FR 674. Some areas are remote with limited cellular service, so preplanning navigation is recommended.

Best Time to Camp at Buckhorn Bar

From May through October, Buckhorn Bar awakens to welcome visitors during Idaho's most spectacular months. While winter brings a peaceful blanket of moderate snow and crisp temperatures hovering between 22°F and 36°F, the campground truly comes alive in the warmer seasons. Summer days invite endless outdoor adventures, while cool mountain evenings are perfect for gathering around the campfire under star-filled skies. The shoulder seasons of late spring and early fall offer their own magic, with fewer crowds and nature's dramatic seasonal transitions on full display.
