About Satsop Campground

Tucked into the emerald embrace of Olympic National Forest, Satsop Campground offers a peaceful woodland retreat where towering evergreens and stately hardwoods create a natural canopy above your campsite. Just a stone's throw from the West Fork of the Satsop River and a short 2.5-mile journey from the shores of Wynoochee Lake, this well-appointed campground welcomes both RV adventurers and tent campers with a thoughtful mix of standard sites, secluded walk-in spots, and group camping areas. Modern conveniences like drinking water and trash collection blend seamlessly with the forest setting, giving you comfort without sacrificing that authentic wilderness experience.
Mixed campground with tent, walk-in group tent sites, and RV sites (including sites with full hookups and a few without hookups); total of 19 sites.
Historical SignificanceSatsop Campground rests within the storied boundaries of Olympic National Forest, a landscape rich in heritage that has witnessed generations of forest stewards, indigenous peoples, and outdoor enthusiasts. While the forest itself tells countless stories through its ancient trees and time-worn trails, this particular corner of the Olympic Peninsula invites visitors to become part of an ongoing tradition of respectful exploration and connection with the Pacific Northwest's natural legacy.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground sits cradled in a lush tapestry of Pacific Northwest forest, where Douglas firs and western hemlocks reach skyward while bigleaf maples and alders add seasonal color to the understory. The West Fork of the Satsop River murmurs nearby, its clear waters carving through the landscape on their journey from the Olympic Mountains. Within easy reach lies the expansive Wynoochee Lake, while the surrounding temperate rainforest reveals its treasures: moss-draped branches, cascading waterfalls tucked into verdant canyons, and the dramatic overlook of Wynoochee Dam where engineering meets wilderness.
Geological RegionThe Olympic Peninsula rises as a dramatic geological island where ancient tectonic forces have sculpted a landscape of stunning contrasts. Here, temperate rainforests—some of the wettest places in the continental United States—cloak rugged mountain peaks that seem to scrape the clouds, while glacier-fed rivers carve their way through valleys toward lowland lakes and, ultimately, the wild saltwater beaches of the Pacific coast. This remarkable convergence of ecosystems, all within a relatively compact area, creates an outdoor playground unlike anywhere else in North America.
