Best Time to Camp at Pittsburg Campground (Loop 400)

April through October is when this place truly comes alive, with all hookups running and the lake warm enough for that first-thing-in-the-morning swim (well, by July anyway). Summers get properly warm and humid—this is Missouri, after all—but that's what the lake is for. The shoulder seasons of spring and fall bring some of the finest camping weather you could ask for, with cooler temperatures perfect for hiking the trails and testing your luck with the bass. Just note that some facilities close up after Halloween, so plan your late-season trips accordingly.
