Best Time to Camp at Loop 3

The gates open February 25th—earlier than most Missouri parks—because spring arrives differently when you're camped at the birthplace of a river. As the Ozarks shake off winter, the trout are hitting and the redbud trees start their show along the banks. Summer brings its own magic: while the air heats up, those relentless springs keep the water at that bracing 58 degrees (your waders will thank you). Just remember that word gets out during peak spring weekends and season openers—these sites fill fast when the fishing is hot.
