Best Time to Camp at Section 2

Plan your visit between April and October when the park is firing on all cylinders—that's when marinas hum with activity and the beaches are open for business. Spring and fall are the secret weapons here: you'll find perfect hiking weather, fewer crowds, and either wildflowers greeting you on every trail or those famous Ozark hardwoods putting on a color show that rivals New England. Summer belongs to the water lovers, with long, hot days made for diving off the boat and watching the sun melt into the lake—just remember your shade hat and plan your hikes for morning or evening when the Missouri humidity takes a break.
