About this campground
Escape to the tranquil shores of Knoll Lake, where pristine waters reflect towering ponderosa pines and the dramatic cliffs of the Mogollon Rim. This hidden gem offers meticulously maintained campsites that serve as your basecamp for unforgettable adventures. Cast a line into the crystal-clear lake, paddle across its glassy surface in your kayak, or set out on trails that lead to breathtaking rim-top vistas. Here, where the forest meets the sky, you'll discover why generations of campers have made Knoll Lake their sanctuary in the Arizona highlands.
Knoll Lake Campground primarily supports tent and RV camping. It does not cater to large groups or glamping enthusiasts.
Historical SignificanceYour campsite rests at the edge of one of Arizona's most dramatic geological wonders - the Mogollon Rim. This ancient escarpment has shaped the landscape and human history of the region for millennia, serving as the defining southern boundary of the vast Colorado Plateau. The rim has witnessed the passage of native peoples, early settlers, and countless travelers drawn to its majestic presence.
Weather and SeasonsExperience the crisp mountain air that defines life at 7,400 feet, where early season temperatures can dip to a refreshing 40°F, perfect for cozy campfire evenings. The campground enjoys predominantly clear skies with minimal precipitation, creating ideal conditions for stargazing and outdoor activities. Gentle breezes whisper through the pines during the day, while nights bring the kind of peaceful stillness that makes for perfect sleeping weather in your tent.
ElevationPerched at 7,400 feet above sea level, Knoll Lake Campground offers a refreshing retreat from the desert heat below. This lofty elevation creates a unique microclimate where cool mountain breezes dance through towering conifers, and the thin, pure air sharpens every scenic vista. Here, you'll sleep closer to the stars and wake to panoramic views that stretch for miles across the Colorado Plateau.
Natural Features and SceneryImmerse yourself in a landscape where nature puts on a daily show. The shimmering waters of Knoll Lake serve as a mirror to the surrounding forest, while the imposing Mogollon Rim creates a dramatic backdrop that changes color with each passing hour. Wildlife enthusiasts will delight in frequent elk sightings - these majestic creatures often graze in nearby meadows at dawn and dusk. As one recent visitor, Aleksandra K., shared: 'Lots of elk sightings in this area,' making every morning coffee a potential wildlife viewing opportunity.
Geological RegionStand at the edge of the spectacular Mogollon Rim, where the earth dramatically drops away in a 2,000-foot escarpment that has captivated visitors for generations. This geological masterpiece marks the southern boundary of the Colorado Plateau, creating a natural balcony with sweeping views that transition from cool highland forests to the sun-baked deserts of Arizona far below. It's a front-row seat to millions of years of Earth's history, written in stone and revealed in every vista.
