About Chickamauga Battlefield Group Campground

Nestled within the historic grounds of Chickamauga Battlefield, this exclusive group campground welcomes organized non-profit youth groups on educational journeys through American history. Shaded tent sites rest beneath a canopy of hardwood trees, offering young learners a peaceful base camp just a short walk from the Visitor Center—0.45 miles on foot through the forest, or 1.5 miles by the scenic road.
A group campground composed of tent sites reserved for organized non-profit youth groups for educational purposes rather than general public recreational camping.
Historical SignificanceThis isn't just a place to pitch tents—it's an outdoor classroom where history comes alive. Reserved exclusively for organized youth groups like scouts and church organizations, the campground serves as a gateway to understanding one of the Civil War's most significant battles. Under adult supervision, young people can walk the same ground where soldiers once stood, transforming textbook lessons into tangible experiences. Each campsite becomes a launching point for educational exploration, where the stories of courage, strategy, and sacrifice that unfolded at Chickamauga can be discovered firsthand.
Natural Features and SceneryImagine setting up camp beneath a cathedral of towering hardwoods, where dappled sunlight filters through the deciduous canopy onto level, welcoming tent sites. The campground loop winds through a mature forest ecosystem, each site marked with numbered posts and embraced by the same native woodland that has witnessed over 150 years of history. As part of the expansive 9,000-acre Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, campers find themselves immersed in a preserved landscape where native plants thrive and wildlife roams freely, offering a serene natural setting that complements the profound historical significance surrounding them.
