About this campground
Step back in time at Lodgepole Guard Station, where a lovingly preserved 1935 Civilian Conservation Corps cabin awaits your arrival. This historic gem sits amid 40 acres of gently rolling pastures, cross-fenced and ready for your horses to roam. Whether you're traveling with equine companions, gathering the family for an unforgettable retreat, or simply seeking a peaceful escape from modern life, this unique property offers an authentic taste of Oregon's forest service heritage wrapped in natural beauty.
The Lodgepole Guard Station offers a unique camping experience with cabin lodging and tent camping options.
Historical SignificanceThis storied cabin stands as a testament to American resilience and craftsmanship. Built by the hardworking hands of the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935, it replaced an earlier 1911 station that had served generations of forest rangers. During World War II, these weathered walls sheltered lookout teams scanning the skies for enemy aircraft, adding another fascinating chapter to its rich history. Today, you'll sleep where heroes once stood watch, surrounded by decades of forest service legacy.
Weather and SeasonsWinter transforms Lodgepole into a serene wonderland, with temperatures hovering around 40°F during the day and dipping to a crisp 27°F at night. Expect a magical dusting of snow averaging nearly 5 inches, perfect for cozy evenings by the fire. Summer brings warm, inviting days ideal for exploring the surrounding wilderness, though the shoulder seasons often provide the most comfortable conditions for outdoor adventures.
ElevationNestled at a comfortable elevation within the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, the station offers pleasant temperatures and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
Natural Features and SceneryPicture yourself waking to panoramic views of pine-dotted pastures stretching toward forested hills that roll like green waves to the horizon. The property's 40 acres of cross-fenced meadows create a patchwork of natural beauty, where morning mist dances between ancient pines. This pristine wilderness serves as home to an incredible array of wildlife—listen for the haunting call of spotted owls at dusk, catch glimpses of majestic bull elk grazing in distant clearings, discover secretive salamanders in cool forest shadows, and know that pristine streams nearby still run silver with native salmon.
Geological RegionThe Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest embraces Lodgepole Guard Station in a landscape sculpted by ancient geological forces. Here, gentle hills flow like frozen waves through a tapestry of meadows and forests, creating diverse habitats that support one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the Pacific Northwest. The distinctive cross-fenced pastures blend seamlessly with stands of towering pines, while hidden valleys and ridgelines promise endless exploration for the curious adventurer.
